The George A. and Eliza Gardner Howard Foundation is an independent foundation administered at Brown University. It awards a limited number of fellowships each year for independent projects in selected fields, targeting its support specifically to early mid-career individuals, who have completed at least one major project and demonstrate potential to be future leaders in their fields.
Artists and scholars supported by the Howard Foundation are expected to devote a substantial portion of time during the fellowship year to advancing new work. It is an unrestricted, non-residency fellowship for the sole purpose of aiding the intellectual and artistic development of the recipients. Fellowship funds may be used in combination with sabbatical leaves or other sources of support, but this is not a requirement.
A total of ten fellowships of $40,000 will be awarded in April 2024 for 2024-25 in the fields of: Emerging Arts and Science and Technology Studies
Potential applicants, prior to initiating an application, should visit the Eligibility link on the Foundation website to see if they meet the requirements for a Howard Fellowship. The deadline for this submission of applications is November 1, 2023. The fellowships funds will be awarded for use beginning 7/1/2024.
